On May 8, 2016, Germany's solar, wind, hydro and biomass plants were supplying about 87% of the energy being used. At one point, power prices dropped into the negative, meaning that commercial customers were actually being paid to use electricity. So what does this mean in a general sense? It means that renewable energy is becoming more reliable and a bigger player in the world of energy supply.
What happened in Germany shows that renewable energy sources are a viable option for power supply and that this option should be considered elsewhere. In fact, Germany plans to hit 100% renewable energy by 2050, so why shouldn't we?
