Music Department starts year stronger than ever

On Oct. 7, the Delaware Valley High School Music Department hosted the 10th annual benefit concert. The proceeds from the concert go to the music department in order to have money for their scholarship fund held at the end of the year. The booster club made approximately $2,300.

The concert began with a standing ovation from the audience after a few students from the chorus opened the show with their own take on the national anthem. The jazz band performed next, conducted by Mr. Joesph Borrell. They performed a variety of songs including solos from eight students.

Orchestra Director, Mr. Nathan Kroptavich, conducted the orchestra through the next ensembles with solos from four members.

“These students have worked so hard to put together some high quality music. The directors are all very proud of them,” said Mr. Kroptavich.

The head of the music department, Mr. Richard Horst, conducted the chorus as they sang songs such as “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” “Sorita,” “Wanting Memories”and “America the Beautiful.”

There were four soloists in the chorus performance. Sophomore Corrine Randazzo performed a solo in the song “Light of a Clear Blue Morning.” Randazzo enjoyed singing this song, because it’s meaning has to do with a beautiful awakening which she compares to the awakening she experienced when becoming a part of the music program.

“It was an honor to have a solo in such an important group. Coming from a school with a small Chorus; it truly opened my eyes to the incredible talent that so many of us take for granted,” said Randazzo.

The concert band, conducted by Mr. Rick Bullock, included two solos. These solos set the stage before the finale including the concert band, orchestra and chorus singing “America the Beautiful” together to end the show.

“The students did a fabulous job coming together. They only had a short period of time to prepare. The directors are all excited for what the future holds for us,” said Mr. Horst.
