Marvel is notorious for their superhero-themed comics and movies with all of the famous characters. Spiderman, the Hulk, and Captain America are just a few of the featured superheroes from the past.
However, the pioneer African-American superhero, Black Panther, is expected to make an appearance to the big screen February of next year. People could not be more excited for it. Black Panther is a fictional character, who made his debut in 1966 as the first African-American superhero. He is a defender of the Panther Clan tribe of the African nation of Wakanda.
Over time, Black Panther began to appear throughout the comic books. They followed his storyline, and how he takes on his duties as king of Wakanda. During the later days of this summer, the trailer for the highly anticipated film caught the attention of many people.
Though Black Panther may have true Marvel comic fans elated, some people look at the film on a little more serious note. Students in Freedom High School feel no similarly about the upcoming Marvel film. Senior Cidnee Phillips is just one anticipating the movie.
“I’m excited, but I am also skeptical of how the media may try to whitewash or stereotype black heroes,” said Phillips.
Being that the movie is directed on the powerful capability of black people, many people are left wondering what will be the outcome. In hopes of Black Panther not attempting to stir up controversy, people are continuously announcing how excited they are for Black Panther.
¨I think that Black Panther will be a major step up in the black community, movie-wise. Our black children need representation on television [and the big screen] and now they´ll finally have some people to look up to that look like them. I don't think that the movie will get all the praise that the other movies though. I am very excited for it though!¨ said Mahagony Epps, FHS junior.
It is a matter of time to see how the movie will turn out, but the excitement about the Black Panther is still in the air for next year.
