If you are like me and you are looking for something interesting to read about that isn’t this year’s presidential election, I’ve got something for you!
Halloween is right around the corner and for some of us this means fun parties and scary costumes, lots of candy and scary movies, or for some of us, hiding in fear. If you are a Halloween lover, but not a fan of the “scary” here are 3 movies, I recommend you watch this Halloween.
1. Monster House, rated PG, released in 2006. A cartoon favorite with a creepy yet comical plot line. A young boy lives in fear of his nasty, old neighbor, Mr. Nebbercracker. He watches him through his telescope as he witnesses countless amounts of children’s toys get sucked into his broken down house after Mr. Nebbercracker reportedly dies. D.J., Chowder, and Jenny all team up to search through this house that seems to be a lot more alive than the man who once lived there. This movie really gives true meaning to the phrase “get off my lawn!”
2. Hocus Pocus, rated PG, released in 1993. If you thought your town had weird history. Try living in Salem around Halloween time. A new student named Max moves to Salem, Massachusetts and quickly learns the story of the Sanderson sisters. Three sisters who “centuries ago” were put to death after “sucking the life out of children.” I know that sounds scary, but trust me this might be one of the funniest Halloween movies I have ever seen. Max, being new and a nonbeliever of the witch sisters, lights the black flame candle which in turn brings the witches back to life for a whirl wind Halloween night of trying to stop and catch these peculiar sisters. Don’t forget to carry your salt with you at all times this Halloween.
3. Halloweentown, rated TV-PG, released in 1998. I know what you’re thinking. Isn’t this that stupid Disney channel movie? You are right! This is in fact a Disney channel original movie; however, it is far from stupid. This movie will take your imagination and love for Halloween to a whole new level. Marnie along with her brother Dylan and her sister Sophie, travels to Halloweentown after discovering that she might be a witch. Halloweentown is an entirely cheerful town full of every “halloweenie” creature you could possibly think of. Of course, it wouldn’t be a good movie without good conflict. Marnie and her siblings must stop an evil force from taking over Halloweentown before it is too late!
