Although the cartoon show Rick and Morty popularized the limited edition Szechuan sauce in 2017, it was first introduced to the public in 1998. Since the show has been rising in popularity over the past couple of years, the discussion of Szechuan sauce has become more common. Ever since the sauce was shown on one of the episodes, fans have been asking for a revival of the sauce, and McDonald’s did just that.
On Oct. 7, the fast food company released the sauce to the public. However, there were some rules involved. The sauce would only be sold for one day at select locations, and each customer was limited to one container of sauce and can only obtain it if they ordered in the restaurant.
The sauce received positive reviews from those who were able to try it. In fact, customers thought it was so good that they started demanding more. Thousands of fans are signing petitions to bring the sauce back full-time because of how good they think it is. On Change.org, over 23,000 people have signed the petition. There are also other petitions with 26,000 and 10,000 signatures, showing how popular the sauce really is.
For the fans who were unable to acquire Szechuan sauce, McDonald’s is releasing the recipe so those at home can try to recreate it. This sauce is in such high demand that it is being sold for over 10,000 dollars on eBay.
Even though the sauce has received a lot of attention over the summer and fall seasons, there are still those who are not in favor of the sauce. Many people don’t like the flavor of the sauce and think it is unnecessary for the fast food chain to sell the product.
Due to the overwhelming demand from the fans of Rick and Morty to bring back the sauce, McDonald’s has agreed to bring it back in the winter, and for a longer time
