Do you know what career you want to do, something you really want to do for the rest of your life? I decided my career my sophomore year after I joined HOSA, a nationally recognized organization, that provides many opportunities. The class is known as Health Professions and takes place at Juniata High School. I have been in HOSA for three years, have been an officer all my years and am serving as President currently. Through this time I gained knowledge and skills in the following areas: medical terminology, anatomy, first aid, human growth and development, cultural diversity, communications, personal care, basic nursing schools, nutrition, mental health, geriatrics, and I am also CPR certified. HOSA is a great place to achieve great things. I now have more knowledge than a college freshman who may have not had this kind of opportunity. If you are looking into a nursing career, or anything Health related I would highly recommended this class. HOSA will help you find out who you truly are, and make you build a stronger character. HOSA participates in many community service acts, from a food drive for the food pantry, Christmas cards for a little girl who lost her family, raising money for a woman's battling cancer in our own community, and so much more ! HOSA is also a special kind of class, not like the normal classes in the building. We constantly work as a team and as each other's patient to practice everyday nursing skills. You may walk into students washing each other's hair, taking vital signs, splinting "broken bones", even shaving each other's faces! ( with a wooden popsicle stick course). In the picture above is Veronica, she is our real life mannequin. She has basically all the same features as a human. She can choke, throw up, groan, answer yes and no questions, and so much more! If you're thinking " I wish I would've i joined my sophomore year" it's never too late to join!
