On Tuesday, October 24, 2017 six EJ jazz band students and one Midd-West student traveled to Harrisburg to see the Glenn Miller Orchestra. The students were Paige Smith, Bella Malocu, Sierra Gearhart, Sarah Irvin, Kylie Elsasser, Bryson Kantz, and Chad Miller. The Orchestra consisted of two tenor saxophone players, two alto saxophone players, one baritone saxophone player, four trumpets, four trombones, a drummer, bass player, and pianist. Along with the saxophone, 4 out of the 5 woodwind players also played clarinet. They were directed by Nick Hilscher, who also sang as a vocalist. The woman vocalist was Maria Schafer. Some of the songs they played were “Little Brown Jug,” “In The Mood,” “String Of Pearls,” “Tuxedo Junction,” “American Patrol,” and “Moonlight Serenade,” their theme song. It was a very well performed concert.
