After subbing for nine years at MHS and teaching for the past two years at Quigley Catholic School, Mrs. Anna Hipfel has returned as a long-term sub for math teacher Mrs. Allison Baldauff.
She is teaching Algebra III, Honors and regular Pre Calculus and Trigonometry. Although she doesn’t teach this class right now, Hipfel enjoys teaching Algebra 1. She likes being able to lay the basic skills for the rest of a student's higher math career.
Coming back to Montour she has
faced some changes because of how technologically advanced the school district is. She also has struggled with all of the systems used for grades, attendance, PLT, and the new hall pass system, but she is glad to be back to a place that is familiar to her.
Hipfel said “That it feels like home being here. It’s very familiar to me.” She likes being here because she feels like she’s
teaching kids who are like her. When she went to Montour she was just an average kid who liked math.
Hipfel got into teaching because of her ninth grade math teacher, Mrs. Brennan. She just thought that there was something about her she liked and she had wanted to be just like her.
Mrs. Brennan, when asked if she saw any of her own personality in Mrs. Hipfel replied, “only when she’s wearing a blazer.”
Hipfel attended Clarion University to obtain her degree in secondary education, math, and she also has a minor in philosophy.
Outside of school, Hipfel enjoys watching sports and spending time exercising outside. She also enjoys travelling and does that quite frequently. This summer she visited Colorado Springs, Italy, Rome, Michigan, and Tennessee.
Hipfel is very excited to be back and she says she, “loves it here. The environment and the people feel like home.”
