On Monday, September 18, “Dancing with the Stars” returned for its 25th Season. As they do every season, the celebrities will compete alongside their chosen professionals for the coveted Mirror Ball trophy, and will be critiqued by judges Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli, with the hosts being Erin Andrews and Tom Bergeron. The season premiere started off with an exciting opening number, which showcased all of the celebrities and professionals, leading into the couples’ own dances, hoping to leave a good impression on the judges.
The dances began with NFL Champion Terrell Owens and his partner, Cheryl Burke, dancing the Cha-Cha to “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg.” After being critiqued by Goodman for his flat feet, the judges awarded him a score of 15/30.
Pop star Debbie Gibson and her partner, Alan Bersten, danced the Foxtrot to Gibson’s own song “Lost in Your Eyes.” She was critiqued for her lack of body contact and her shoulders by Tonioli and Goodman, resulting in a score of 17/30.
“Pretty Little Liars” star Sasha Pieterse and her partner, Gleb Savchenko, danced the Cha-Cha to “Like That.” She was told by the judges that she seemed nervous, but still maintained chemistry with her partner, Gleb, so she received a score of 18/30.
Next, one-half of the “Property Brothers” stars, Drew Scott, danced the Foxtrot to “Our House” alongside his partner, Emma Slater. He struggled during his performance and was told by Goodman that he lacked technique and is a “fixer-upper” when it comes to dancing, which resulted in a score of 16/30.
“Shark Tank” star Barbara Corcoran and her partner, Keo Motsepe, danced the Salsa to “Money Maker.” Although she excelled in her enthusiasm and faces, she lacked technique and received the lowest score of the night from the judges, which was a 14/30.
“Hamilton” star Jordan Fisher danced the Tango to “There’s Nothing Holding Me Back” with his partner, Lindsay Arnold. The judges agreed that he had an outstanding performance which resulted in the highest score of the night, 22/30. This gives high hopes to Lindsay Arnold, as in the past years she has never won a Mirror Ball trophy and has come close each year with 4th, 3rd, and 2nd place. Hopefully, Fisher will help her finally achieve her goal of winning the coveted Mirror Ball trophy!
Former “98 Degrees” singer Nick Lachey danced the Cha-Cha to “Come Get it Bae” with his partner, Peta Murgatroyd. He is held to a higher standard as his brother, Drew Lachey, won “Dancing with the Stars” in Season 2, and he hopes to follow in his brother’s footsteps. Sadly, he did not take after his brother’s dancing ability and was told that he was too stiff, and that his moves could’ve been smoother, which resulted in a score of 18/30.
The other half of the married couple duo, Vanessa Lachey, and her partner, Maks Chmerkovskiy, danced the Cha-Cha to “Woman.” Vanessa upstaged her husband and was told by the judges that she had great footwork and posture, resulting in a score of 21/30.
The TV Star who is most famously known for his role in “Malcolm in the Middle,” Frankie Muniz, and his partner, Witney Carson, danced the Foxtrot to “Sign on the Times.” He was critiqued for not having a natural flow, but overall, the performance was enjoyable to watch, so he received a score of 19/30.
WWE fighter Nikki Bella danced the Tango to “So What” with her partner, Artem Chigvintsev. Her main struggle in her dancing was her inability to give up control and learn to provide a more graceful side for the judges. She even ended the dance with a bang by body slamming Artem to the dance floor! Overall, the judges told her to be more confident and to not look down as much, but they liked the performance and gave her a score of 20/30.
NBA player Derek Fisher and his partner, Sharna Burgess, danced the Salsa to “Basketball.” Beforehand, he was warned by his mother, who happens to be a huge fan of the show, that Len would be watching his footwork. He did not follow through with his mom’s advice and was told that his technique would need work, but it was entertaining, so he received a score of 18/30.
Paralympic athlete Victoria Arlen and her partner, Valentin Chmerkovskiy, danced the Cha-Cha to “Born Ready.” Her performance brought many to tears, including Carrie Ann, because at the age of 11, Arlen slipped into a vegetative state for four years and spent ten years in a wheelchair. She struggled to learn how to walk again, and still struggles with the idea that she cannot feel her lower half of the body. Overall, she delivered an outstanding and joyous performance, relying heavily on her partner, which resulted in a score of 19/30.
Violinist Lindsay Stirling and her partner, Mark Ballas, finished off the night with the Cha- Cha to “Don’t Worry.” She delivered an excellent performance and was even told by Len that her lines were crisp and had good hip action, and he even claimed that it was his favorite dance of the night. She received a score of 22/30, therefore tying the highest score of the night with Jordan Fisher and Lindsay Arnold.
