Lately, 2016 Presidential Candidate Donald Trump has had trouble with media due to videos being released of him making controversial comments. Most of his remarks have been made toward women. Donald Trump and Billy Bush were on their way to meet Arianne Zucker to discuss Trump’s cameo in the soap opera he would be appearing on with her. While on the bus, you can hear them saying sexual things about her body and bragging about being able to “do anything” to her because of his fame. In this video, he talks about “grabbing” women and kissing them.
The conversation was recorded in 2005, but after the video was leaked, Trump made a video apologizing for his words and actions. He states, “I've said and done things I regret, and the words released today on this more than a decade-old video are one of them.” He also talks about how his travels around the world, and seeing people struggling, have changed his views and made him more appreciate. Then at the end, he goes on to say, “Bill Clinton has actually abused women, and Hillary has bullied, attacked, shamed and intimidated his victims.”
Although this is the most recent piece of media released about Trump saying questionable things about females, there are many more allegations of sexual misconduct or harassment popping up. One woman who was in a beauty pageant run by Trump, claimed that he would walk backstage while the girls were in various states of undressed. Donald Trump publicly made a comment to Howard Stern saying, “Well, I'll tell you the funniest is that before a show, I'll go backstage and everyone's getting dressed, and everything else, and you know, no men are anywhere, and I'm allowed to go in because I'm the owner of the pageant and therefore I'm inspecting it. ... You know, they're standing there with no clothes. 'Is everybody okay?' And you see these incredible looking women, and so, I sort of get away with things like that. But no, I've been very good." Four girls recalled him walking in while they were changing for the Miss Teen USA Pageant. One, 17 years of age, said that it seemed he felt “it was his given right… because he owned the pageant.” He has also made arguable comments about his daughter, saying how he would date Ivanka if she weren’t his daughter. There have also been claims from his ex-wife, Ivana, of sexual assault.
After all of the claims made about Donald Trump making sexual advances or saying questionable things, we may never know what is true and what is false. Both 2016 Presidential Nominees have made mistakes and done or said inappropriate or illegal things. We get one or the other this year. It’s up to America to decide.
