Newfield High School Remembering 9/11

September 11th, 2001 is a date that lives in infamy, and forever in our hearts. Sixteen years later, we continue to hold a moment of silence – the main grounds of Newfield occupied by hundreds of flags – stars and stripes, freedom, liberty – all flying gracefully in the wind.

The majority of Newfield’s student body was not yet born to experience that tragic day or were a mere year or two old – at most – at the time. Yet, they all wear red, white and blue, and apparel supporting the FDNY and NYPD, as September 11th is not only a day for memorializing the over three thousand souls who lost their lives on that horrific day, it is also a day of remembrance and gratitude. Gratitude towards the heroic men and women who ran into the Twin Towers, while all others ran out. Gratitude towards the thousands of men and women nation wide that endured long lines to donate blood to help save those who need it most.

September 11th, 2017 is a day that has influenced all of our lives tremendously, however, it also significantly unified the United States. It will forever be in our hearts, as we remember not only those who lost their lives that tragic day, but the heroic acts from otherwise average Americans. That day showed us who our real heroes are, and odds are, they may be closer than you think.

Thank you to the students from GO along with Newfield's AP Mr. Tangney  who placed flags around Newfield HS to remember the lives loss on September 11th sixteen years ago.
