A Woman Rules the Box Office

The new Wonder Woman film proved to be a trailblazer at the box office earning $100.5 million in North America and an additional $122.5 million internationally. Variety reports that the film will have the biggest-ever opening weekend for a film directed by a woman. Wonder Woman’s audience was different than most superhero movies.  Fifty-two percent of first weekend's audiences were women versus past Marvel and DC films that generally relied on capturing mostly male audiences.

London Bridge Attack

London fell victim to another terrorist attack over the weekend. Seven people were killed and dozens were injured when three attackers drove a van into pedestrians on London Bridge and then launched a knife attack in the busy Borough Market neighborhood. While the Islamic State has claimed it was behind the incident and the attackers were killed by police, 12 additional people have been arrested.

Climate Change: Paris and Pittsburgh

Donald Trump ran into some trouble after his statement regarding leaving the Paris Accord Agreement. “I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris,” Trump said, speaking in the White House rose garden. The statement elicited a quick response form both the Mayors of Pittsburgh and Paris.

Bill Peduto, the mayor of Pittsburgh, countered Trumps statement with, “Fact: Hillary Clinton received 80% of the vote in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh stands with the world and will follow the Paris agreement.”

The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, also had a quick response on Twitter. “Once again Donald Trump is wrong, Paris and Pittsburgh do stand together for the Paris agreement.”
