When I first saw the trailer for Call of Duty WW2, I honestly felt like I re-saw Fury, Saving Private Ryan, and Band of Brothers. Band of Brothers is an HBO series about this 101st Airborne Division’s company known as “Easy Company” and how they fought the second world war in the European Theatre. But we are here to not get off topic, so let’s get right into the article!
The first half of the trailer consisted of the Normandy Beach landings and were depicted similarly to the movie Saving Private Ryan. The point of view of the soldiers going over the side of the landing craft and into 10 foot deep water was visually reminiscent of this. Then once I saw the German machine guns shooting down the allied soldiers as they struggled to advance. And again, it had the same over the shoulder shot as seen in Saving Private Ryan.
Overall, the teaser trailer looks pretty good as far as graphics, theme and setting. People on social media have said it looked like Activision was copying EA and DICE’s Battlefield 1, but in my opinion Activision was just trying to keep up the yearly Call of Duty series. What I mean by that is that Activision saw how many people were discontented with the most recent Call of Duties such as Infinite Warfare and Black Ops 3. Call of Duty World at War was, in most Call of Duty players’ point of views, one of the greatest Call of Duties besides maybe games from the Modern Warfare series. Activision responded with Call of Duty WW2.
Regardless of what people say, their game reminds me of Call of Duty World at War more than Battlefield 1. Am I buying the new Call of Duty? I don’t think so, I’d rather spend my money on Titanfall 2, or Red Dead Redemption 2, or an old Grand Theft Auto that gave me great experiences. Quite frankly, I’m rather tired of Call of Duty itself because I moved on to Battlefield with wider maps, actual objectives and more of an authentic experience with a mature fanbase. Call of Duty is an arena 6v6 style game where the only thing you can do is kill others and make you look like the best player just because of a K/D ratio -- it’s just not my thing.
