During the last few decades the video game industry has improved dramatically. With “Pong” being released in just 1972, some people get very surprised by the graphics that game designers have achieved in such a short time. In order to create games like “Battlefield 1” people need to invest a lot of time and money into it. Still, some people think that video game designers aren’t artists and that there is nothing associated with art when it comes to making games.
I partially agree with those people by saying that only the visual and audio designers are considered artists. They put in just as much work as real artists. I think that drawing the graphics for every character, building, item is the same as for a painter to draw a portrait of someone.
The same goes with music writers. They need the same kind of inspiration to write the music. I think it is even harder for game music writers to compose music, because they need to make it fit the specific situations in a video game.
I think art is a very broad field containing many professions like painter, composer, sculptor etc. I think it’ll be fair if we consider video game graphics and music designers as one of them. Most of the people deciding to take that professions were normal artists.
I'm not gonna say that the programming side of video game making is also art, because I don’t consider it so, but I am definitely going to say that people that design graphics and music for those games are artists.
