Netflix always comes up big for new movie and show lovers. For those who love movies about scandals and truth searching. From All the President’s Men to Shattered Glass, movies that cover the inside peeks of journalism are sure to get movie lovers hooked.
A movie that has become a popular hit for Netflix watchers is Spotlight. Spotlight was not quite as known when it first appeared on Netflix, however once more users started to hit the play button, the star count started to rise.
Spotlight came out in 2015, but takes place in 2001. The story behind the movie is a small group of journalists who write for the Boston Globe. The group investigates a series of sexual abuse allegations made by a priest. The journalists also look into the why the Archbishop of Boston knew about the situation, but did not say anything.
The small intense group of Boston Globe writers come together to solve a case that has been swept under the rug for many years. However, the search for more truth and lies grows as more victims come forward, and speak up about what everyone had kept quiet about.
As the search goes on, the groups of journalists have to uncover the not so pleasant truth that it might not be just the Catholic church involved the the molesting cases.
Overall, I think the movie deserved a good four or five stars. The concept of journalism, reporting, and scandalous news. One of the biggest things that made me love this movie so much, is the way these journalists dig deeper than anyone could think to find the truth about what was going on in the Catholic church and more. Journalism is underrated nowadays, and this movie definitely does it justice.
