Hurricane Matthew Leaves a Path of Death and Destruction
After more than a week spent ravaging the Atlantic coast from Jamaica to the Carolinas, Hurricane Matthew was downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone early Sunday morning. Projected to be the fiercest hurricane this season, Matthew more than lived up to expectations. After forming in the Caribbean on September 29th, the storm traveled northeast, leaving more than 522 dead in Haiti, the hardest hit city. Throughout Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas, Matthew’s violent winds and massive flooding left 14 confirmed dead and more than 2.2 million homes and businesses without power. On Sunday, President Obama signed major disaster declarations for Florida and Georgia, releasing more federal aid money and resources than initial emergency declarations had.

Oh Donald ...
Last Friday’s surprise release of a taped lewd conversation between Donald Trump and television personality Billy Bush led to a damaging weekend for the real estate maven’s Presidential campaign. By Saturday evening, many GOP lawmakers had withdrawn their endorsement of Trump, with more than two dozen calling for him to resign his Presidential nomination. The nation’s top-level GOP figures, including party chairman Reince Priebus, House Speaker Paul D. Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, have all denounced Trump’s comments, but each stopped short of condemning his campaign. When asked about the reactions within his party, Trump told The Washington Post, “I’d never withdraw. I’ve never withdrawn in my life. No, I’m not quitting this race. I have tremendous support.”

Tom Brady Returns With a Big Win
After serving a four-game suspension for his role in New England’s notorious “Deflategate” scandal, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady made his 2016 NFL debut on Sunday, passing for over 400 yards en route to a 33-13 thrashing of the Cleveland Browns. Looking completely rust-free, Brady wasted no time reconnecting with his favorite targets, including tight end Rob Gronkowski and receiver Julian Edelman, who saw 5 receptions apiece, and tight end Martellus Bennet, who pulled in 3 receiving touchdowns on the day. At 4-1 on the year, the Patriots are now in 1st place in the AFC East division.
