America had been working on Atomic technology ever since Albert Einstein had informed them of Germany working with it too. The government put all the resources not already in use for the war into testing and creating an atomic bomb for themselves. They shoved all the greatest American brains into a deserted town in New Mexico and supplied them with everything they required. Called the Manhattan project, an atomic bomb was created and dropped in New Mexico on the 16th of July; 1945. Soon 2 more were created if we did decide to drop them on japan. And, drop the bombs we did. Truman Decided to drop the first bomb on Hiroshima. This was one of the smaller bombs, Called Little boy. Little boy was dropped on the 6th of August and had an atomic blast equal to 15,000 tons of TNT. It absolutely obliterated the city, immediately killing 66,000 people, injuring 69,000 others and taking out 67% of the structures. The U.S. waited 3 days for a surrender from Japan, it did not come. On the 9th the U.S. sent another bomb over to the Japanese. Fat Man was larger and had an explosion equal to 21,000 Tons of TNT and was dropped on the city of Nagasaki, both Hiroshima and Nagasaki in some way had military use. The destructive power of Fat man was lessened by the narrow valleys of Nagasaki, yet 39,000 died and 25,000 were injured and 40% of structures were damaged. Many Military officials refused to surrender even after these attacks but Emperor Hirohito stepped in and initiated a surrender at about the 15th of August and the official papers were signed September 2nd. The United States celebrates such a momentous day, after so much fighting not a single drop of U.S. blood is spilled in the final days of the war. Now known as the “kissingest” day in history military men were out in the street kissing and hugging nurses and woman throughout towns in America, soon parades roll through the streets. This was the happiest day in America and saddest in Japan.
