Is the love of reading still alive for teens?

Reading has begun to be an obsolete hobby for teens. No one whips out a book to read when they get bored or when they finish their work early anymore during class. More often you see students glued to their phones over staring at a book. Technology has literally taken over teens spare moments. Students always are texting a friend or looking on social media, and just trying to stay up to date on the newest trends or the most popular videos. It seems to be a chore for teens to actually read a book. Taking a look at english class curriculum, usually there are a few instances where students are required to read a chapter or two a night. Sometimes the books that are assigned to be read are the only books students have ever read, but they have to read to receive a decent grade in the class. It also seems that teens get bored reading a huge novel they have no interest in, or they haven’t used their imagination to capture a picture of what is happening in the story. Boredom then results in students thinking that reading is a waste of time and they can be doing better things instead of enjoying a book.
