The following article originally appeared in Juniata High School's newspaper The Arrowhead.
This year, Juniata High School's musical was one of the classics, Anything Goes. Two other schools near the area also performed iconic and classic musicals: The Wizard of Oz and The Sound of Music. East Juniata High School performed The Wizard of Oz on the 18th and 19th of March. The entire cast brought the beloved musical to life with their infectious energy, great sets, and talented cast. Jenna Seaman, who played Dorothy Gale, captured the innocence and sweetness the character possesses. Jenna easily caught the audience's attention with her wonderful singing and acting. The cast did a wonderful job and you could see how much work was put into the play.
The other musical was performed by Penns Valley High School on the 10th and 11th of March. I was very excited to see this rendition of The Sound of Music because it was performed here at Juniata in 2015. Maria was played by Virginia Stattel and Zachary Floray acted the part of Captain von Trapp. The students did a wonderful job and everything went smoothly. However, like with Juniata's musical, people were unable to perform. Therefore, an understudy played the part of Max Detweiller. This did not discourage the cast, and the show went on without any problems. These schools did a great job of performing these timeless musicals and most importantly, it seemed as if they all had a blast. I hope I can see their shows next year, and I implore others to go watch them as well!
