Walkman
What’s a walkman you ask? Is it a special dance? When was the last time anybody ever used one of these? A walkman comes in several different types. There's a cd walkman, and then there's a cassette walkman. Today we’ll be talking about the cassette walkman.. On July 1st 1979 the walk, man was invented. It was a 14 ounce portable cassette player with large buttons, headphones, and a leather case. It even came with 2 headphone jacks so that two people can listen at the same time! The walkman cost $200 dollars in 1979! This was a large amount of money if you consider the fact that the average monthly rent in 1979 was $280! The walkman was a brand trademark name reserved just for sony’s auto cassette players in 1979. But later on it was used to market sony’s audio and video players. Originally they called it the sound-about in the US but they had to come up with a name that wasn’t trademarked. Even though the walkman isn’t a hit anymore because of luxury items such as cd players, and ipods, iphones, etc. Sony still makes the walkman. Which makes sure that decades old items can still live on.
Now that you’ve heard about what a walkman is… Let’s see what your classmates had to say what it was before they heard about it…
”An older way to play music”- Noah Fitch
”One of those weird walkie talkie things”- Austin Richardson
”An old person Ipod” - Astrid Hakuaag
”Compact CD player” - Aiden Putnam
”A manhole” - Robert Tardieu
”A walkie talkie”- Lizzie Poirier
”I don’t know” - Eli Cruz
As you can see not many people happen to know what a “Walkman” is.
