VP DEBATE: PENCE VS. KAINE
Vice Presidential contenders Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine debated at Longwood University, a small college in Farmville, Virginia. Though Farmville is a relatively unknown town, it was a hotspot of conflict during the final days of the Civil War. In 1865, the Union army pursued rebels through the town just prior to the Confederate surrender. Farmville was also the site of some pivotal Civil Rights battles. In 1951, students at a nearby all-black high school held a monumental protest against the area’s school segregation policies.

TRUMP'S TAXES: GOOD BUSINESS OR BAD POLITICS?
Partial records of Donald Trump’s 1995 tax returns have been made public by The New York Times, and though they reveal more than $900 million dollars worth of financial loss, the real surprise is that they prove Trump’s claim that “the system is rigged”—but in this case, rigged in favor of people like him. Because of special tax relief options that grant “real estate developers or managers” huge tax breaks when their properties and businesses fail, Trump legally had the right to eliminate his taxes for nearly 18 years. Though they are technically legal, loopholes like these aren’t available to typical or low-level business taxpayers.

PRESIDENTIAL VETO OVERRIDE IS A BIG DEAL
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says President Obama himself is to blame for Congress overriding a recent Presidential veto. When Congress overturned Obama’s veto of a law that would let 9/11 victims sue Saudi Arabia, McConnell did acknowledge the danger of the law, saying it may have “unintended ramifications.” After Congress overrode the veto, McConnell turned the tables, mentioning he told Obama it was a law “we should have talked about much earlier.” House Speaker Paul Ryan reacted in a similar way, supporting the override, then, commenting the legislation should be amended to protect the U.S. from similar lawsuits.

SNL SKEWERS FIRST PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE
Saturday Night Live opened its 42nd season with a Trump vs. Clinton Presidential Debate parody staring Alec Baldwin and Kate McKinnon. The skit poked fun at Trump’s notoriously bad pronunciation of “China”, his consistent sniffling and claims of a broken microphone during the recent debate. In recent years, Trump has been played on SNL by Darrell Hammond, and Taran Killam, who left the show this past season. Baldwin has now guest-hosted SNL 16 times, making him the most frequent guest-host in the show’s history. Steve Martin is the show’s second most frequent host, having made 15 appearances.

GARY JOHNSON CAN'T NAME ANY WORLD LEADERS
During two recent MSNBC appearances, Libertarian Presidential candidate Gary Johnson failed to display much global awareness. During an appearance on the “Morning Joe” show, Johnson was asked how he would help the Syrian city of Aleppo, to which he replied, "what is Aleppo?". Days later, during a conversation with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, Johnson was asked to name any world leader he admires, but couldn’t answer the question. Johnson, who has not received enough poll votes to participate in any televised debates, continues to campaign for this November’s Presidential election.
