As you may know, Women's History Month is in March and since April is right around the corner, I think we should take a closer look at some pretty powerful women who have redefined the definition of what it means to be awesome. These women have heavily contributed towards gender equality through the various ways they show off their competence and dexterity. Here are some phenomenal women who should be recognized for their achievements.
Hillary Clinton
Despite losing the recent election, Hillary Clinton has done what no other woman has in US history: she became the first female major-party candidate. By doing so, Clinton has paved the road for all women in America seeking to achieve greatness and leadership.
"Women are the largest untapped reservoir of talent in the world." -Hillary Clinton
Malala Yousafzai
At the young age of 15, Malala Yousafzai was shot point blank by the Taliban on the school bus in her small town of Mingora, Pakistan. Her recovery was miraculous and that is what led her to become the best-known advocate for equal education. Malala's book, "I am Malala" sold over 1 million copies worldwide and she is also the youngest person ever to have won the Nobel Prize laureate. Most importantly, her story spreads awareness of the discriminatory nature of women's education throughout underdeveloped countries.
"We realize the importance of our voices only when we are silenced." -Malala Yousafzai
Beyoncé
Everyone knows who Beyoncé is, and most people could argue she is the best female singer ever to have lived, however, she has more to offer than a fantastic voice and killer looks. Beyoncé can be characterized by her rockin' self-confidence and flawless attitude. In a society that stresses women should not be bold, Beyoncé sparks the revolution to redefine the limits and stand up for what you believe in.
'Power is not given to you, you have to take it." -Beyoncé
Ellen DeGeneres
As one of the most recognizable women on TV, Ellen DeGeneres can be described as a groundbreaking enthusiast. She gained much popularity in the late 1990's when she came out as a lesbian, thus sparking a whole new gay rights movement. Many describe her as being extraordinarily supportive and authentic. Ellen was even awarded the Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor, by former president Barack Obama in 2016.
"Sometimes you can't see yourself clearly until you see yourself through the eyes of others." -Ellen DeGeneres
Emma Watson
Emma Watson has gained lots of attention with the release of Disney's realistic version of Beauty and the Beast and her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series, however, that's not all she is known for. Watson is the epitome of female intellect, having graduated from an Ivy League school and speaking as a goodwill ambassador at the United Nations in July of 2014. Watson has readdressed the capabilities of women numerous times and still promotes feminists everywhere.
"I don't want other people to decide who I am. I want to decide that for myself." -Emma Watson
Ruth Bader-Ginsberg
Ruth Bader-Ginsberg, serving as one of the most prominent women in the US judicial branch, has continuously pushed for gender equality in the legal field. She has been serving on the US Supreme Court since 1993, and not a day has passed that she hasn't spoken her mind and stood up for what she believes in. She definitely knows what it takes to be a leader.
"Fight for things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you." -Ruth Bader-Ginsberg
Serena Williams
Ever heard of Serena Williams? I'm sure you have considering she has claimed 23 Grand Slam Titles and been named #1 in singles on various occasions. She can be considered one of the best athletes on the planet and also an extremely hard-working gal. I think that deserves some recognition.
"You have to believe in yourself when no one else does." -Serena Williams
I hope these women's stories give you a sense of pride and encourage you to be the best person you can be.
Sincerely,
MG
