Safe Haven of Pike County is an organization created to help provide services and support to victims in the Pike County Area who are affected by sexual assault, domestic violence and other serious crimes.
"We will offer a listening ear, and active encouragement for each client along with a safe place for those in need to lay their head,” said Executive Director Tamara Chant.
April is sexual assault awareness month. Throughout the month, Safe Haven will be sponsoring events such as “Take Back the Night,” “The Clothesline Project” and “Open Hearts, Open Mics.”
The “Take Back the Night” event will be held on April 28 from 6-9 p.m. There will be guest speakers, stories from survivors and a march with signs participants created along with tables of information.
Safe Haven will also sponsor “The Clothesline Project” event on April 15 from 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. that the community can participate in. They will write statements on T-shirts that will hang on display in a public area to make a symbolic statement of sexual assault awareness.
Also an “Open Hearts, Open Mics” night will take place on either April 20 or 21 from 6-9:00 p.m. The open mic night will showcase the talents of community members through slam poetry, songs and other works.
Safe Haven is a confidential place to find help, the 24 hour hotline number is 570-296-4357. On March 13 there will be an open house from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. to educate on the impact Safe Haven has and will continue to have on the community in the future.
