Wellsboro Football, a big tradition in our little hometown. For some background knowledge, Wellsboro is a small town in Tioga County Pennsylvania with a population size of roughly 3,300 people. Fall time is usually one of the big times around Wellsboro because it is football season. We take football pretty seriously. Our season starts right after the regular season is over. It is a requirement that we have 200 credits before the next season begins. We can get credits from playing other sports, going to football camps, weight lifting every day, attending spring practices, or playing 7 on 7s. Each way of getting credits is weighted differently. Our coaches are very dedicated to football just as much as the players are. The coaches come in and lift everyday just as the players do. Sometimes the coaches challenge the students to a lift off and it is a lot of fun. At the beginning of every season, we all come together for a week in our high school’s old gym and camp out in there. We do it because it is a bonding experience. All of us come together to live in the same environment and play football together. You either like it or hate it. It is a great way to interact with your teammates, but boy oh boy you will be tired the first day you are there. There are 3, 2 and a half hour practices a day. One after breakfast, one after lunch, and one after dinner for 5 days a week. The seniors that are graduating this year had the best record any player has ever had in their football career at Wellsboro with a record of 39-8. Most of those loses being playoffs or state games. The Wellsboro Football program has been the best it has ever been in the past 4 years. Every year we manage to do better, and that is because what we do in our offseason. The fans are always great! So many of them come out and cheer us on during those Friday nights. Most of our fans are friends, family, and residents of Wellsboro who support us. It feels great when you are out there on the field every Friday with hundreds of people in the stands cheering you on. To think that the fans are almost excited, as you are to just be there and watch is an amazing feeling to have.
