This past week, the Wellsboro High School Swim team headed down to Williamsport High School for the District meet. Districts spans over the course of two days, and swimmers can only swim two events. To qualify for Districts, you have to swim a certain time in an event. Swimmers can either choose to swim two events on one day, or one event on each day. This year I swam the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard freestyle. The 50 free was first on Wednesday night. I had never gone to Districts before, so heading into the meet, I was nervous. I ended up finishing second overall in the 50 free, with a new personal record of 25.32 seconds. Coming off of a good first swim boosted my confidence for the next day. After basketball practice Thursday evening, I traveled back down to Williamsport for Day 2. Tonight, I had the 100 free ahead of me, and I felt my nerves return. I finished off my second event in second place, with another new personal record of 55.05 seconds. If you place in the top six, you get to stand on a podium, and receive a medal. All my other teammates finished well, and swam outstanding races. Nathan Cotner qualified for states in both his events, which is a huge accomplishment. Coming off of a great freshman season, I look forward to what next year brings.
