Is there any real definition of normal? When you look up the term normal you get the definition of "conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected." You also get the definition "usual, average, or typical state or condition." Society determines what is normal, and if you do not fit into that category you're automatically categorized as an outcast, as a weirdo. Most people hate being put into those categories and try their best to be "normal," even if that means pretending to be someone in which they aren't. Growing up, especially in New York, you're expected to act a certain way. Yes this is true, I myself am a victim of this "New York way." I know a group of teenagers in particular that do not care what anyone thinks of them and they act as freely as they want to without caring what anyone says. I first encountered them on a train platform. I had been on my way home with my best friend and there was this other group of teenagers by us who were just laughing and joking around living without a care in the world. Within the next couple of days I quickly became associated with one of those kids and while speaking, I was told "I don't really care much for what people think of me; I'm comfortable with who I am so why should I let people shame me into being ashamed now." That statement has stuck in my head since I was told it, and it has made me open my eyes more to society's standards and how much we believe we are our own person but in actuality how much we conform to society's standards.
