District Chorus Summary
By Sarah Connell
This year's District Chorus festival was held on the 14th of January. This is where the best singers from each school in the 4th district come together to perform a series of challenging musical pieces and to compete in order to advance to Regional Chorus. This year, seven students from Juniata High School had a chance to attend this festival. Jessen Abram and Lawson Fitzgerald both attended singing Bass 2, Pishima Calloway and Mahala Laub were Alto 2, Jessica Hockenberry and Maddie Walters were Alto 1, and Sarah Connell was a Soprano 2. All seven of these students did a wonderful job at the festival and represented Juniata well. When asked about their experiences, everyone said that it was very fun and that they learned a lot. They also thought very highly of Dr. Christopher Jackson, the conductor of the festival. The students were also asked about their favorite pieces they learned for the festival, to which there was a variety of answers. Lawson and Jessen were particularly fond of “Loch Lomond,” a piece only for the men. Although they did not sing it, the girls enjoyed the song as well. Maddie's favorite piece was “The Parting Glass,” a piece strictly for the women, and Sarah's favorite was an Italian song called “Si ch'io vorrei morire.” Pishima and Jessie both picked “A Boy and a Girl” as their favorite ,and Mahala enjoyed “Luk Luk Lumbu,” a piece written in an Indonesian language that was difficult to learn at first. The group has talked about going again next year, and while some say they will definitely try out for District Chorus next year, others will not, and some are unsure. For now, however, we congratulate the talented singers that represented Juniata this year at District Chorus.
District 4/6 Orchestra Summary
By Amaris Wolfe
At Juniata High School, three students were selected to participate in the annual PMEA District Orchestra Festival. Lydia Glick (oboe), Hannah Erdman (French horn), and Amaris Wolfe (violin) traveled to Somerset to represent our school on January 26th-28th. The festival was directed by Dr. Jeff Tedford, who also conducts the orchestra at Grove City College. Each student auditioned for a seat in the Region III Festival in March, and Juniata is proud to be sending Amaris Wolfe and Hannah Erdman. Kudos to Lydia, Hannah, and Amaris for all of their hard work and for representing Juniata so well!
Don’t Forget the Musical!
By Emily Bonson
Don’t forget to come support the school on March 3rd or 4th and watch this year’s school musical, Anything Goes. The cast and pit band continue to work hard in preparing for the performance, so try to appreciate all of their efforts by wishing them luck and enjoying the show.
