Established in 1983, Irene’s Kitchen, located across from the Milford Diner, provides the community with hand-made chocolates sold in a variety of holiday packages.

Owner Irene Buhler and her son Arthur Buhler make and create the tasty treats that come out of the cozy pink shop. Along with his candy making talent, Arthur is a pyrotechnician, resulting in a mini selection of fireworks in the shop.

Irene’s Kitchen is open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. They have numerous selections of treats to choose from; varying from candy coated almonds, yogurt covered raisins, peanut butter chews, old fashioned stick candy and chocolate pretzels.

Buhler started her career working as a teacher in Wilton, which paved the way to her business.

“It started off with my students not being able to find items they needed. I went out and found it for them. Chocolate making was easier than cake making, and then one thing led to another,” Buhler stated.

“Cake decorating tools, cookie cutters, hand-made chocolate, fudge, holiday items, dipped strawberries, candy making tools and ice cream year round,” Irene listed off. Along with these items, the shop also caters to their customers specific needs. Providing for all, the shop carries sugar free items as well. For this upcoming Valentine’s Day, Arthur and Irene are going to be creating heart boxes filled with chocolate.

The Buhler’s have been in the same location since Arthur bought their current building in 1998. Along with this location, Irene said they had moved locations numerous times in the past. Two of their former locations was across from Apple Valley as well as in Matamoras.  

 Irene said one of her favorite aspects of owning her business is helping her customers when they have questions about cake decorating and candy making.

She said, “it is always nice to welcome customers in and talk to them about things.”
