There’s no other sport like golf! Most people think that golf is boring but it’s origins say otherwise. Golf goes back to the time of Julius Caesar. It also dates back to the Song Dynasty in China in the years 960 to 1279. Although these versions aren’t the same type of version that we play today. The golf that we play today goes back to Scotland in 1457. The game was outlawed by King James the 2nd of Scotland under the reasons that it distracted from the training for the military. Golf started to become a hobby around the 17th century in Great Britain. The first US golf club with 18 holes was the Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton Illinois. Which started in 1893. The US golf association started in 1894. This association presides over golf and determines the rules. The current presiding body is The Professional Golf Association which started in 1916. In 1981 the name of the pro places was changed to the Tournament Players Association. It’s current name is the Professional Golfers Association AKA the PGA tour. By the 1920s Tournament Golf was off to a great start as a spectator sport in the United States. As most golfers know, Golf keeps on getting more and more popular and I’m sure they’d like it to stay that way.
