GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2: May 5, 2017
A big-budget Marvel flick starring Chris Pratt, Sylvester Stallone, Vin Diesel, Glenn Close, Bradley Cooper, Kurt Russell and Zoe Saldana? Sold! As the sequel to 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 is another mind-bending documentation of the Guardians’ travels throughout the cosmos, during which they vividly demolish all forces of evil in the most entertaining ways imaginable. And if that wasn’t enough, rumor has it there’s an actual plot too, something about Pratt’s half-human character Star-Lord discovering his true heritage. Guess that sounds intriguing, but just in case, make sure you catch the 3-D IMAX version. And overseas viewers, fret not—whereas Vol. 1 was released in 6 foreign languages, Vol. 2 will debut in 16 translations. Obviously, the studio expects nothing short of complete global conquest.

THE DARK TOWER: July 28, 2017
Recently, the entertainment industry has been cashing in massively on book-to-movie projects (Fifty Shades of Grey, Game of Thrones, every Marvel comic), but this take on Stephen King’s series of novels is more of a redesign/sequel than a run-of-the-mill adaptation. The Dark Tower follows a young boy who discovers a troubled alternate dimension called Mid-World, and in it, a mysterious cowboy on a quest to reach another alternate dimension called End-World. The two soon join forces, and with an evil wizard hot on their trail, race toward the Dark Tower, the place in End-World where Mid-World can be saved. Stephen King is a master, the books have a huge cult following, plus Matthew McConaughey and Idris Ebla are both in their prime. Definitely worth the price of admission!

BLADE RUNNER 2049: October 6, 2017
Ridley Scott’s original Blade Runner is a neo-noir classic widely considered one of the best sci-fi pics ever, eventually released in seven different cuts and selected by the Library of Congress for the US National Film Registry. For the uninformed, a Blade Runner is a police officer of the future who eliminates dangerous “replicants” (genetically engineered bots), who have escaped their work colonies. Blade Runner 2049 features Ryan Gosling as a Los Angeles Runner who must find an original Runner, played by Harrison Ford, who has been missing for 30 years. If you go and don’t like it, just pretend he’s Indiana Jones or Han Solo and all will be fine.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII: December 15, 2017
Though Reddit rumors abound, the official plot is still heavily under wraps, and director J.J. Abrams plans to keep it that way. We do know however that the latest installation in cinema’s greatest franchise picks up exactly where 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens left off. We also know that Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis and the late Carrie Fisher will all return. This one doesn’t debut until late 2017, so in the meantime, some crazed fan will probably hack somebody’s laptop and leak something informative. But, crazed fan, if you’re reading this—screenshots are great, small clips are fine, but please, for the sake of the mankind, no spoilers!
