Region 7- FBLA Regional Leadership Conference
On January, 4###sup/sup### 2017, Region 7 of PA FBLA had their Regional Leadership Conference at Pennsylvania College of Technology. The Regional Leadership Conference is when all the FBLA organizations in that region meet up at one spot for competition, workshops, and to just make new friends. 6 members from Wellsboro Area High School’s FBLA went to the event, myself included. This is my experience.
Opening Ceremony
It all started with an opening meeting. The day was introduced by some of the region’s officers and roll call was taken for each school. Then, the speeches began for all of the officer candidates. All the candidates for state offices went first. Of course, we wouldn’t be voting for them at our region meeting but they would give their speeches again at the state conference. Then once they were done, Region 7 candidates officers shared their speeches. Each one took turns on why they should be the office they were running for.
Finally, our keynote speaker started talking about her business and their past in FBLA. Her main idea was to follow your passion. Once she finished, we were left to go to our workshops and hang out on the campus.
Workshop #1- Quiz Bowl
We started off with a kahoot about our FBLA region and the entire organization in a whole. Then, we started talking about our past experiences in FBLA. People who have been to the state and national conferences spoke up and said what FBLA meant to them and what the conferences were like. The people that were talking had been in FBLA for at least 4 years and have had a lot more experiences with the program than me. It was fascinating hearing about people’s experiences and what the organization meant to them.
Workshop #2- Personal Leadership
During this workshop, we figured out our personal leadership types. There were four types. Peacemaker (Values everyone’s feelings), Truthkeeper (Values facts, not so much social interaction), Solutionseeker (Values both facts and feelings), and Risktaker (Born leaders. The ones who are team leaders and inspiring everyone). Most people got Risk taker but I got solution seeker. It was very interesting seeing that there are different leadership types and how each one can be important to the group. I learned a lot about myself and how I can be a better leader to my FBLA chapter.
Our day was drawn to a close when all the schools returned to the main area and each competition’s placing was said aloud. Wellsboro sadly didn’t take home any scores this year but this is the club’s first year. Next year, hopefully we will be more productive and excel more in our test scores.
