African elephant weigh up to 6000 kg. The African elephant is the world largest land mammal. The use their trunk to smelling, breathing, detecting vibrations ,caressing their young, sucking up the water, and grasping objects. Elephants have very large ears to serve many purposes. It helps them radiate heat under the harsh African sun. Flapping of the large ears can give you signs either aggression or joy. Communication is vital to elephants. The male will leave the herd at around 14 years old. Successfully raising their offspring is critical to their survival. Elephants dig holes to expose underground springs.
