George Carlin (Born: May 12, 1937 Died: June 22, 2008) was a groundbreaking comic, actor, author and social critic. His stand-up material often included controversial narratives on American society and culture, politics, religion and psychology. The 1978 U.S. Supreme Court case F.C.C. v. Pacifica Foundation, which dealt with the government's power to regulate indecent content public airwaves, featured one of Carlin’s routines as a central piece of evidence. In 2008, Carlin became the first posthumous recipient of the esteemed Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
