It's that time of year again . . . that time where we look back and reminisce about our year. These were the top 5 internet trends of 2016!
No. 5: Adele Carpool Karaoke with James Corden
This instant classic showed comedian James Corden drive around with performing artist Adele as they sing both her songs and their favorites. Garnering over 140,000,000 views makes it the most viewed video of 2016.
No. 4: The Mannequin Challenge
In order to do the mannequin challenge, everyone must stand still in silly poses as you are filmed while the song "Black Beatles" is played. This trend has even been copied by our school, which should be releasing a two part video of it soon.
No. 3: PPAP (Pen Pineapple Apple Pen)
This silly video by Japanese comedian PIKOTARO took over the internet with multitudes of videos parodying it. Some of the videos parodying it have more views than the original, exemplifying its wide sphere of influence
No. 2: Pokémon Go:
Pokémon Go is the mobile app by Niantic Inc. that swept the nation out of their houses and outside to catch adorable Pokémon! While declining in popularity, it still was the most popular app this year, alluring players with its virtual reality promises.
No 1: Water Bottle Flipping
This internet trend is as far reaching as it could get, starting off with a few viral videos, and then turning into something on the scale of what you see above. Even at our school, 9th graders on the bus always bottle flip to pass the time!
That's all for the internet trends of this year, and here's to a great 2017!
