Volleyball Tournament

The Student Council Volleyball Tournament occurred November 23, before Thanksgiving break at the Shanksville-Stonycreek School District. The tournament was open to all high school and middle school students, if they wish to participate.

SSSD Student Council hosts the volleyball tournament every year, before Thanksgiving break, for the students in middle and high school. This event always occurs the day students have an early dismissal at 1pm, and participating students are excused for most of their morning classes. Students that participated had to pay a small fee to be able to take part in the event.

Teachers were also allowed to bring their students that didn’t participate in the volleyball tournament, to the gymnasium if they wanted to watch the games.

This year Student Council wanted to give the money raised to a family in need, in the Shanksville community. All proceeds were given to Dan and Donna Fox. The grand total was $400 that was donated.

The games kicked off bright and early November 23 with continuous games going on, on either side of the divided gym. One side being for middle school and the other for the high school.

With their unique team names, creative outfits, and enthusiasm, the students of SSSD showed their volleyball skills.

During the volleyball tournament a special guest decided to join the crowd. Victor the Viking, the Shanksville-Stonycreek mascot, came to pump up the crowd, and add even more excitement to the event.

The volleyball tournament used a double elimination bracket, so students had more chances to participate even if they lost a game.

In the end, the Peanut Butter and Yams won the high school volleyball tournament and the That’s What She Set won the middle school volleyball tournament.

“The volleyball tournament is one of my most enjoyed times of the school year, and even though we didn’t have many teams to play against, it was a fun time.” stated Aaron Smith.

The annual volleyball tournament is a hit every year for middle and high school students. Everyone enjoyed having fun showing off their volleyball skills while raising money for a worthy cause. Thanks to Student Council the volleyball tournament this year was a success and an enjoyable event.
