At the beginning of the school year, we welcome the Freshman at our first "Open Mic". Open Mics are an opportunity for the school community to become involved in displaying our talents, building and embracing confidence, and to top it all off, having a good time. This gives our incoming class a chance to see what AMSU is about and invites them to participate in the events with their new family.

AMSU ladies, teachers, and staff displayed the willingness to share their talents and rejoice after school. Students engaged in playing instruments, reciting spoken word, and singing. We were lucky enough to have our former teacher, Mr. Henry, return and perform with his guitar club. It is great to see individuals step up to the mic by themselves and demonstrate a immense amount of courage like a couple of freshmen that sang “Impossible” by Shontelle. Being bold is even demonstrated by our ladies when they perform in groups. Everyone that participated received an immense amount of applause from the crowd. Through this event, our community came together. Everyone was great!
