On December 3, 2016, Coraopolis did their own light up night, where the people from the community can come out and look around at the shops that stayed open late for this event. During the light up night, many stores like Jean’s Attic, Relics on 5th, and Inner Visions stayed open so people could look around in their stores and to just enjoy being out in the neighborhood with one another.
There were also different activities going on for the kids at the Coraopolis Youth Creations Community Center that took place 2:00-6:00 p.m. There was also a cookie walk that took place at the VWF for the kids, along with a visit from Santa. At around 5:30, the RMU choir came and sang, Here Comes Santa, Peace Melody, and Holly Jolly Christmas while Santa came to the town square in a fire truck. Soon the Cornell High School band started playing different Christmas Carols such as Joy to The World, Jingle Bells, and Oh Christmas Tree right before the tree was lit.
The energy around throughout the crowd was fun, energetic, and just all around calm. The children were running around with their friends while people were talking with one another about different things surrounding the holidays. Once it was time to light the christmas tree, the RMU choir director wanted everyone to do a countdown to bring up the energy so the tree could be lit. Once the countdown was finished, the tree lights turned on and everyone started to clap and some cheered. Then the Cornell Band did one last song for the night before everyone disbanded for the evening. What a wonderful experience!
