Have you ever walked around school and heard beautiful music flooding the halls? That would be Ms. Fink directing the orchestra with hard work and dedication. Ms. Fink is a fairly new teacher to FLHS. Her journey began in 2018 which was my first year as well. Ms. Fink has a 7th period music class, an 8th period orchestra class and teaches lessons in the mornings on Wednesdays and Fridays. Not only is she an amazing teacher at the high school, but she also teaches at Memorial Middle School and inspires the children to continue with music throughout their lives.
Ms. Fink is an optimistic soul who really tries her best to make learning fun and appealing to her students. Her ideal “good school day” is when her students make progress in whatever they are doing, whether it be in school, behaviorally or in their own lives/personal goals. Ms. Fink says that in her class when “everyone does their best or everyone showcases a new skill or talent that I have taught them, that’s a good day” because it really makes her smile and it shows she is making a difference in her student’s life; to her, this is the most gratifying thing.
Ms. Fink is also very open and accepting to the students. Although a good day of school may be when the students do not interrupt her and follow every instruction, she knows that everyone has different personalities and likes when they express themselves at appropriate times. Instead of forcing everyone to be quiet, she allows time in the beginning of class for students to catch up with each other and decompress from the stress of the whole school day. She also talks with us and makes jokes which helps the students feel more comfortable and associate fun with music.
Her inspiration comes from her orchestra teacher. During her high school years, Ms. Fink faced many hardships and trials. Ms. FInk even quit violin and decided she wanted nothing to do with music. Her violin teacher found her and gave her comfort. As a result of this teacher, Ms. Fink restarted the violin and found her passion for music. Everyday, she hopes that she can be the same kind of light in her students’ lives and can change the life of even just one person.
The FLHS school environment is made brighter with Ms. Fink as a teacher. Her radiance and positivity carries on to her students. The incredible talent for playing string instruments is unmatched and she is perfectly able to pass these skills on to her students. We appreciate Ms Fink for all her hard work and dedication to music at FLHS.
