Have you ever wondered about the mysteries of space? Look no further, as the FLHS Astronomy Club’s Planetarium Night was in full-swing on the evening of Thursday, January 27th at the Planetarium here at Fair Lawn High School. Missed the date? Don’t worry, as this is just one of multiple Planetarium events the Astronomy Club hosts.
“Four times a year, we have a Planetarium Night and we invite the public to the Planetarium,” said FLHS freshman and president of the Astronomy Club.
This particular Planetarium event highlighted the theme of meteors, asteroids, comets, and Earth’s encounters with them.
“We have three separate showings and it goes from an hour to an hour and 30 minutes depending on the showing,” said the president of the Astronomy Club
The FLHS Astronomy Club is a student-run organization catering to all FLHS students with an interest in space, planets, stars, and the universe. Members of the club can learn more about astronomy and its many components. More specifically, the club focuses on amateur astronomy, in which those who are interested observe celestial objects like planets, comets, stars, and meteors.
“I would say that the thing that I find most interesting about the Astronomy Club is that all students get to explore something new that is fun to learn about,” said an FLHS freshman and member of the club.
In the Astronomy Club, which meets once a month on every third Tuesday, there are many activities students may engage in including learning how to use telescopes, stargazing, and launching model rockets.
“I enjoy how people who have similar interests with astronomy come in here and get along…[interests] they wouldn’t be able to express anywhere else,” the president of the club said.
The next Planetarium night is to be determined, so those interested in attending should be on the lookout for the next date in the Spring.
