The mental toll this virus has taken on all of us is tragic. It's become obvious a lot of us don't know how to cope in a healthy way. Sometimes people will turn to drugs or take their emotions out on others. Everyone copes differently. Someone could turn their emotions into something like art, or dance and become productive by using their emotions to power their creativity. Others will wind up being consumed by their emotions and allowing them to overpower them. Coping strategies are like Goldilocks and the Three Bears. You have to find something that's just right for you.
I asked anonymous students what are some healthy things they do to help themselves cope in a healthy way so that maybe they can find ways of coping that benefit them. Here are the responses: “Whenever I'm stressed or anxious I go to the gym and workout. I think it really helps”. “Meditation, watching your favorite TV show, taking a break from social media, sitting outside if it's sunny”. “Try to do stuff for yourself even if it just takes a shower or eating breakfast”. “I was in a bad place for a long time and i dug myself out of that place by starting a routine and sticking to it every day. Meditation and working out helps a lot because you start to eventually feel better about yourself”. “Listen to music, watch a comforting movie.” “Coloring!”
Here are some more tips on how to deal with and cope with depression. It doesn't matter how bad your depression is these tips are helpful either way:
- Have a strong support network like a trusted friend or family member
- Go for walks
- Try your best to avoid procrastination
- Follow a routine
- Keep up with chores
- Eat fruits and veggies
- Drink more water
