St. John Vianney’s Lady Lancers dominated yet another impressive season. The Lady Lancers basketball team led by Coach Dawn Karpell is currently undefeated with a record of 14-0 and ranked #1 in New Jersey. The players demonstrated extreme skill in their play, leading them to blowout wins by 30 or more points in multiple games this past season. This season, the Lady Lancers faced the most elite competition throughout the Garden State.
Last season, consistently winning and making quite a name for themselves, the team secured the Non-Public South A title. Just two days after winning the title, COVID-19 shut them down for the remainder of their season.
However, the girls have made their comeback this winter season despite the new COVID restrictions. On March 2, the Lady Lancers had a spectacular game against Jackson Memorial in the Girls Shore Conference quarterfinal round, defeating the Jaguars 85-58. St. John Vianney guard and Princeton commit Madison St. Rose scored her 1000th point during the curse of the win.
On March 4, the Lady Lancers played Manasquan Warriors for the semifinal round of the Shore Conference Tournament. The Lady Lancers continued their dominance with a 64-47 win over Squan, advancing to the finals against rival Red Bank Catholic.
On March 6, the Lady Lancers secured their win against Red Bank Catholic’s Caseys in the final round of the Shore Conference Tournament with a score of 61-34. The girls’ season has now come to a close with their flawless record and their number 1 ranking for the second year in a row. When speaking with the Asbury Park Press, Head Coach Dawn Karpell shared, “I wanted to give them an opportunity to leave their legacy, so to speak.”
