The Safe Space

The Safe Space

Poem by Leah Landron

I'm lonely, but not quite alone;

I get up and head out with one last check of my phone.

Left simply, to get something,

I walk down the hallway, softly thinking.

Then, I push open the door,

And I'm not in the same universe anymore.

Here, where memories come alive:

I've found the place where my heart resides.

Now something compels me, although I don't quite know what,

To burst out in a song and a dance, but

First I check and see that I am alone

Before I am truly myself in this newfound home.

I see nobody, so I spin and I twirl,

Laughing at myself as all my worries unfurl,

But I have to get back, I can't be here forever,

So I get what I came for and leave much more together.
